A Study on Residues of the Organochlorine Pesticides in Poulty Tissues

Abstract
An experimental study was carried out to determine the amount of chlorinated pesticide residues accumulated in poultry tissues.
During the experimental period of five weeks, ten white leghron hens were fed on mixed feed of ¥ã-BHC, Heptachlor, Aldrin, Dieldrin, and PP¢¥-DDT. The residues in the Preen gland, Liver, Heart, Gizzard, Breast muscle were analyzed by the Gas Chromatography.
The results obtained are summarized as follows:
1. Recovery rates of each pesticide added to poultry tissues were 94.5% in ¥ã-BHC, 94.27% in Heptachlor, 92.53% in Aldrin, 93.70% in Dieldrin, 93.17% in PP¢¥-DDT and 55.15% in Endrin.
2. As the feeding period increased, the level of the residues of the pesticides in poultry tissues were observed to get higher, and the highest at the end of feeding period.
3. Residues of the pesticides in the poultry tissues were highest in the preen gland, decreasing in order of the liver, heart, and gizzard, and they were lowest in the breast muscle, and they were connected with the fat content in the tissues.
4. The residues of Aldrin with comparatively low recovery rates were the highest, on the contrary, the residues of Heptachlor with comparatively high recovery rates were the lowest.
